RTD Temperature Sensors- Pt 100, Pt 1000

The full form of RTD is Resistance Temperature Detector. It is a common device for temperature measurements in a wide range of industrial applications which is used to measures temperature. RTD sensors contain either platinum, nickel, or copper wires, as these materials have a positive temperature coefficient.

RTD PT100 Sensors are the most resistance temperature detectors consist of a fine wire wrapped around a ceramic core. It exhibiting a linear increase in resistance as temperature rises. Pt 1000 is used to measure the resistance of a platinum element.

Pt 100 offers 100 ohms resistance at 0°C and 138.4 ohms at 100°C. Pt 1000 offers 1000 ohms resistance at 0°C.

What is a Sensor? Most Common Types of Sensor

Sensor is a device that detects and responds to some type of input from the physical environment. The output is generally a signal that is converted to a human readable display at the sensor location. It also used to transmit electronic ally over a network for reading and further processing.

Criteria to choose a Sensor

There are certain features that have to be considered when we choose a sensor. They are as given below:

1. Accuracy

2. Environmental condition – usually has limits for temperature/ humidity

3. Range – Measurement the limit

4. Calibration – Essential for most of the measuring devices as the readings changes with time

5. Resolution – Smallest increment detected by it

6. Repeat ability – The reading that varies is repeatedly measured under the same environment

Common types are:

Temperature

● Proximity

● Acceler-o-meter

● IR (Infrared)

Pressure

● Light

Proximity Sensors: Introduction & Features

It is able to identify the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact. A proximity type often transmits an electro magnetic field and looks for changes in the field or return signal.

Proximity sensors are used across a broad range of industrial and manufacturing applications. It is also used to detect ferrous and non-ferrous metal objects and in capacit models to detect non-metal objects. They are used to sense the presence of objects or materials and then initiate some action or simply flag their absence.

Inductive proximity sensors are used for non-contact detection of metallic objects. Their operating principle is based on a coil and oscillator. It creates an electro magnetic field in the close surroundings of the sensing surface.

Adjustable IR Infrared Proximity Sensor

Adjustable IR sensor is a set of transmitter and receiver in one of the photo electric switch. The detection distance can be adjusted according to the demand.

The Adjustable Infrared Sensor Switch is small, easy to use, inexpensive, easy to assemble. It can be widely used in a robot to avoid obstacles, interactive media, industrial assembly lines, and many other occasions.

The switching signal output differs in accordance with the obstacles. It remains high when no obstacles and remains low when there are obstacles. There is a bright light behind the probe to detect the scope of 3 cm – 80 cm.

The infrared proximity switch uses the object to block or reflect the beam, and the circuit is strobe by the synchronous circuit to detect the presence or absence of the object. Objects are not limited to metal, and all objects that reflect light can be detected.
